5 things to do to on Veteran days

Veteran day November 11st is the day to honor people who served our country and also an opportunity to educate the youth about their sacrifice. If you are wondering how to show your appreciation to veterans on that day, here are some suggestions for Veteran’s Day activities.

 1. Volunteer

The first thing you can do to honor veterans is to sign up to volunteer for Veteran's day. Some activities you can volunteer include: supporting veteran’s parades and visiting old veterans who live alone. Therefore, you will have the chance to meet veterans and to learn about their experiences. Do not miss this wonderful opportunity to ask them about their glorious feats or simply some questions like what they do in the army? Why did they join the army? Do they have any cool memories with their teammates? Don't ask sensitive questions like if they’ve killed anyone as it might evoke their painful memories.

2. Visit Veteran at VA hospital

The next thing to do to honor Veteran’s Day is visiting veterans at VA hospitals. You should find a nearby VA hospital and have a visit with friends to meet and talk to patients there. Besides, you can join volunteer programs at VA hospital and join activities like cooking lunch for veterans, talking to veterans about their life, or help organize art performance activity, etc.

3. Donate

If you don't have much time to volunteer or visit veterans, donating is a great thing to do on Veteran's Day. You can donate to VA hospitals or veterans' associations like the US Department of Veteran Affairs, Veteran Outreach center, etc. By donating, you can give financial support to veterans who are in difficulty and veteran caring facilities that need funds to maintain.

4. Invite a veteran

If you're a teacher, you can organize a small conference with a veteran as an honor guest and presenter while students are audiences. By doing this, can help the young generation gains more understanding of the military, helping them navigate their future by direct conversation with the veteran. Also, this helps the veteran convey his stories to the next generation. It will be an interesting Veteran’s Day activity for both younger and veterans.

5. Gift for veterans

If you have a close relationship with a veteran, such as your grandpa or grandmother, then you can give him or her gifts that you prepare yourself to show how much you appreciate their sacrifice to our nation. There are plenty of meaningful gifts you can give them, for example, the veteran t-shirt, veteran coffee mug, veteran sweatshirt, veteran poster, etc. Don't forget to attach a card with all of your wishes for them attached to your gift.
